Tips For Helping Your Dishwasher Do Its Job

Tips For Helping Your Dishwasher Do Its Job

One of the greatest kitchen inventions of all time is the automatic dishwasher. But there are times when your dishwasher is not doing the job it was meant to do. If you are unloading dishes that are still dirty, here are some tricks you can try before you call for an appliance repair in San Diegou County.

Scrape Your Dishes

If you have a dishwasher that was manufactured within the last decade, chances are you don’t need to do all that rinsing. But what you should do is thoroughly scrape food debris off your dishes before you load them into your dishwasher. Newer dishwashers use higher water pressure and higher temperatures that are more adept at getting dishes clean but you still want to ensure that you aren’t clogging the drain with food pieces.

Load it Correctly

Loading the dishwasher from the back is simply more efficient. This way, you don’t have large items in the front to reach over to try to load the back. Load the dishwasher with plates facing inward toward the center of the unit. Make sure to load large flat pieces around the edges so they don’t inhibit the sprayer from getting to the entire load. You will want to know where your sprayer is and how it works so you’re not inadvertently blocking your dishes from getting clean. Consult your owner’s manual.

Put the More Fragile Things on Top

When loading your dishwasher, put plastics and more fragile glassware and other items on top. The drying element is on the bottom of most dishwashers so keep anything that may be prone to melting or warping on the top away from the element. The pressure from the spray arm is not as intense on the top. Items that are placed on the top rack have less tendency to melt and break in the dishwasher.

Silverware Loading

Silverware gets cleaner if you stagger the loading. Instead of the forks and spoons nesting into each other and making it impossible for the water to get in between, if you stagger your silverware, putting some up and some down, so all pieces get exposed to the water from the spray arm, you are more likely to get thoroughly clean silverware.

Don’t Overload

Although it may be tempting to get every single plate and kitchen implement into one load, chances are that many of your dishes will not get clean. Too many dishes and the water may become blocked from getting to everything. Keep some larger pieces aside for hand washing or do the loads in batches.

Use the Correct Amount of Detergent

When it comes to dishwashers, more detergent doesn’t necessarily mean better. Dishwasher detergents can be rather harsh. Use only the amount recommended by the manufacturer.

If after doing all these things you are still dealing with a load of dirty dishes after the cleaning cycle, you may need professional appliance repair in San Diegou County. Call the experts at San Diego Appliance Repair Company and we can get your dishwasher working correctly again.
